Rafting

Since its foundation in 1907, Jasper National Park's natural trail system continues to dazzle hikers from all over the world. A few of Jasper's trails are restricted to pedestrians, but the majority of trails is shared by hikers, mountain-bikers, equestrians and of course wildlife.

White water rafting is certainly one of the most popular activities for visitors in Jasper, in summer. Rafting on Jasper National Park's river system allows you to view the Park from a totally new perspective, and is perfectly suited to family occasions, parties, and celebrations.

Guided Adventures

Horseback Riding

We highly recommend you participate in a guided adventure if you do not have much time to spend in Jasper, or if you do not wish to partake in aggressive hiking.

Horses have been used to explore the mountains and valleys of Jasper National Park since the very beginning. Early outfitters were the source of many of the trails within Jasper National Park. 

Horse travel is utilized in many areas of the park, although Parks Canada does suggest you adhere to the approved horseback trails in order to limit your impact on the parks wilderness.

Biking

Golfing

Jasper National Park offers hundreds of kilometres of mountain bike trails and numerous road riding options. Biking is in fact an excellent way to explore the Park. Designated trails rails range from easy to difficult. 

The best time to ride is from May to October, but you must ensure you adhere to the following guidelines:

• Ride only on designated trails. It is your responsibility to know which trails are legitimate.
• Stick to the trails, do not deviate.
• Avoid riding in extremely wet or muddy conditions.
• Trails in Jasper National Park are all shared-use trails - expect to encounter hikers and horseback riders.
• Beware of bears. Your speed of travel and quietness may cause you to surprise a bear.

Boating and Paddling

Fishing

Boating in rowboats and canoes is permitted on most lakes within Jasper National Park. Boats with electric motors (without on-board generators) are allowed on most road-accessible lakes. Use of gas-powered motors is prohibited. 

Be cognizant of weather conditions and your craft's payload capacity as most lakes are extremely cold and even a short time in the water can lead to hypothermia. Life jackets are a must.

Anyone 15 years old or younger may fish in Jasper National Park without a license, if accompanied by a permit holder 16 years of age or older. 

However, their catch must be included within the permit holder's daily limit. They may also purchase their own permit and be entitled to the full catch limit. 

A day fishing at Maligne lake can easily turn out to be a highlight and is considered by many as a top priority item on their bucket list!
